Our photography retreats are based at The Court, a 1600s thatched house right in the heart of the quaint old village of Sheepwash, mid way between Okehampton and Bideford in North Devon. The retreat is on the corner of the village square, opposite the Half Moon Inn, a gastro pub. Sheepwash has a well stocked community shop and there are far reaching views across the rolling Devon hills.
The Court was first known to be a public house throughout the 1800s and was called The White Hart Inn. Several of its landlords and other residents are mentioned in the many census returns from that time, and it’s from there that we get most of our room names. In the 1900s it was a general store, including when the Jones family lived there from the 1930s.
Price covers: tuition fee and your stay at Retreats for You - 2 nights' bed & breakfast (Fri & Sat), plus lunch (Sunday), and afternoon tea, coffee, cake Dinner is also included on Fri & Sat and includes wine at dinner.
Everyone will get their own bedroom, shared bathrooms, and all meals are included (apart from your pub lunch during the outing on Saturday). Any hot drinks you need are included and there is tea and coffee making in the room itself, plus fluffy towels, dressing gown, hairdryer. Snacks like banana bread and home-made flapjacks are also included. As is wine with the two evening meals.

Please ask about the ability to book one of the three double bedrooms, and a partner may be able to come with you for the reduced additional cost for them of £60 per night to include the stay in shared room but not the photography.
(Retreats For You is usually a writing retreat, so your partner may be in the company of other writers at the retreat, tucking themselves away into the comfortable nooks and crannies in order to relax and write, sit in front of the roaring wood burner fire, or enjoy some doggy therapy with the two adorable labradors, whilst you are out on the photography course).
If a couple want to book and share a room and both attend the photography course there is a £20 reduction per person on the overall fee.
The Retreat Weekend
The retreat weekend starts on a Friday evening with a social dinner. This is when we can all have chat, you can find out a bit about myself and my background and what to expect from your weekend as well as any other questions you may have.
Saturday is a day with your camera, the other people on the retreat with myself and weather permitting, the great outdoors, exploring parts of Dartmoor to capture it's craggy landscape and historic features.
A Merrivale Tor
Merrivale Stone Rows
We will stop at a place to eat during the day and after lunch continue exploring. Lunch is the only meal that is not included in the cost of your weekend stay.
Then returning to the retreat for a nice warm evening meal.
Sunday morning, after breakfast we will then review a selection of your photos from the day's outing and look at some editing techniques, as well as answering your questions on your photos, editing, storing, backing up or any other questions you may have.
The weekend then finishes at 2pm for you to start making your way home, hopefully with some new knowledge, good memories and even greater photos.
